About
Welcome to my lens where I try to capture 'humanity' within my photos. I am a social / documentary photographer who expects each photograph to convey feelings and emotion, and for the viewer to beg for questions… I challenge myself by taking the works of various photographers including Fan Ho or Diedo Moriyama, and have learned to concentrate on geometric shapes to compose high contrast black and white images. In many cases people become incidentals to the overall composition.
Traditional emphasis on sharpness is tossed out, as I embrace imperfection. I prefer capturing images on ‘film’ as that allows me to express my creativity using bold lines, deep shadows etc… all ‘perfection found within imperfection’. As Ho stated with Black and White photography….'it provides a sense of distance and separation and is simplified and turns images to the abstract. The world of color is reduced to black, white and gray'....
Dorothy Lange is a photographer I have become to love as she emphasized emotions thru her concentration on ‘body parts’ instead of ‘body whole’. So emotions come across with geometry as I move forward. …. Lastly Russell Lee comes to mind as his grim and honest depiction of society / culture within the depression era of the 1930’s brings forth a documentary style of photography; poignant, direct and in your face. No bones.
Instead of just shooting photographs, I approach my photography based upon central themes that are being more driven by societal issues. Please contact me about if you have comments.

Soft Pourne…$18. This unique photo book is a correlation of some of my Salt Prints. The photographs were captured using film as well as digital but were printed using the traditional Salt Printing process from the late 1830’s and 1840’s. I really enjoy the very tangible aspect of creating salt prints, especially if I am working from a film negative.Contact Jim Lehmann (contact form) or order directly from on-sight store.
Four Evenings…$18. This photography book was captured in Tucson, Arizona within an artists warehouse. Various artists representing multiple mediums were used. Specifically Melbourne…1. A limited order on this Zine. A 120 page zine with around 78 images. I captured using a blend of digital and film. This is a photo-book that also shows the settings and lens used for each image. So a great way to see not only the difference between film and digital, but also what settings were used. While not necessarily a documentary-style book, it does represent a slice of life in Melbourne, Australia. Price is $30. Spiraled softcover book.
